An intelligent approach to having better health and mobility, and greater physical ease as you age.

As we age we become more aware of how much we depend on our bodies, and how important it is to take care of them! This is also often a time when it can feel as if our body is letting us down more than it used to. It can get hurt more easily, and takes longer to heal, and we can start to lose the ease of movement, balance and easy upright posture that we had when we were younger.

Over the years many of us accumulate a great deal of muscular tension in our bodies from poor habits and the stress and strain of everyday life. This can gradually result in distortion, poor alignment and pain. In addition the range of movement that we have available to us may become more limited and constrained. When we grow older the effects of this strain and limitation can start to become more noticeable.

Fortunately human beings are very resilient and it is never too late to make positive changes! The Alexander Technique is a proven resource which can help you to take care of your body as you age, avoid injury, and maintain your posture, balance and poise. In Alexander lessons we look at your movement patterns and the way you hold yourself to see what you are doing that is putting your body under unnecessary strain and tension. You can become aware of what you are doing to pull yourself out of shape and learn how to let go from that into a feeling of freedom and ease which may feel like a distant memory and something you thought you would never get back.

Is it for you?

The Alexander Technique is not a quick fix, an exercise system or a 'treatment'. It is something you experience, learn and apply for yourself. The benefits stay with you and can help you to take care of yourself for the rest of your life.

The Technique is likely to be a good fit for you if:

  • You are ready to take responsibility for your own health and destiny and to make positive changes in your life to help yourself get (and stay) better

  • You like to learn new things and are willing to grow and enjoy the journey

  • You are willing to commit a little time each day to work with what we do in the lessons.

Why Learn with me?

  • I have been a qualified Alexander Technique teacher for over 15 years, since completing a three year, 1600 hour STAT (Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique) approved course in 2001.

  • I trained as a teacher having used the Technique to recover from my own debilitating repetitive strain injury. I therefore have an understanding grounded in my own experience of how it can be used to resolve real world problems.

  • My approach combines immersion in a long tradition of hands-on work with cutting-edge insights from neuroscience and other bodywork modalities.

  • I am continually studying, learning and engaging with other disciplines to deepen my teaching practice and broaden what I can offer my students.
