For Musicians

For almost a hundred years the Alexander Technique has been helping musicians and other performers to excel while taking care of their health and wellbeing.

Marcus is very professional, and his approach is both knowledgable and sensitive. I feel that I have benefitted hugely from his lessons in Alexander Technique and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

About me …

I’m Marcus James, a qualified and experienced Alexander Technique teacher, and I’ve been practicing and thinking deeply about this work for over 20 years. Music and fine Cabinetmaking have also been part of my journey.

… how it works

In a series of one-to-one lessons I help you notice unconscious habits which get in the way of your body working as nature intended, and show you how to let go of them so that you can go about your life and activities in a way that is healthier, less stressed, and more comfortable, balanced and free.

Marcus has brilliantly communicated the subtly of the technique and the very simple changes one can make so your body works as it is designed to. With great humour and patience he has helped me undo 70+ years of bad habits and my knees and walking vastly improved. I wish I’d tried it years ago!

What happens in a lesson?

Through discussion, skilled touch and verbal instructions I work with you to gently move your system towards balance and ease in a way which you can integrate and use for yourself, now and in the future.

Location

I work from Ottershaw in Surrey, which is close to Woking, Addlestone and Weybridge.

Marcus has been a skilled and wise guide for me during a period of high stress and change, and I highly recommend him. Through his skill with the Alexander Technique, I’ve learned to calm down and find balance, find my voice, and recover from my repetitive strain injury. He has a practical and thoughtful understanding and unusual patience, humour and sensitivity in teaching it.
